Steering Angle Sensor: Removal: Removal

NOTE:

While the battery is connected, even if the power switch is OFF, the brake control system activates when the brake pedal is depressed or the door courtesy switch turns on. Therefore during servicing of the brake system components, do not operate the brake pedal or open/close the doors while the battery is connected.

  1. PRECAUTION 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to read the "PRECAUTION" thoroughly before servicing. Refer to PRECAUTION .

  2. REMOVE LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT MAT SUB-ASSEMBLY  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 3
  3. REMOVE BATTERY SERVICE HOLE COVER LH  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 5
  4. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    1. Disable the AUTO TILT AWAY function by changing the customize parameter. Refer to CUSTOMIZE PARAMETERS .
      NOTE:

      Record the current customize parameter setting (whether the AUTO TILT AWAY function is enabled or disabled) in order to restore the current setting after finishing the operation.

      HINT: 

      Performing the above operation causes the AUTO TILT AWAY function to be disabled when the power switch is turned OFF.

    2. Turn the power switch ON (IG). Operate the tilt and telescopic switch to fully extend and lower the steering column.
    3. Turn the power switch OFF and disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
      WARNING:

      Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.

      NOTE:
      • w/ Navigation System (for HDD):

        After the power switch is turned off, the display and navigation module display (HDD navigation system) records various types of memory and settings. As a result, after turning the power switch off, be sure to wait for the time specified in the following table before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

        Waiting Time before Disconnecting Cable from Negative (-) Battery Terminal

        Condition Waiting Time
        Vehicle enrolled in safety connect system 6 minutes
        Vehicle not enrolled in safety connect system 1 minute
      • When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected. Refer to INITIALIZATION .
  5. PLACE FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD 
  6. REMOVE SWITCH AND VOLUME CASE  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 5
  7. REMOVE NO. 2 STEERING WHEEL COVER LOWER  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 6
  8. REMOVE STEERING PAD  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 7
  9. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 10
  10. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER (w/o Driver Monitor Camera)  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 11
  11. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER (w/ Driver Monitor Camera)  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 12
  12. REMOVE SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 12
  13. REMOVE STEERING SENSOR 
    1. Detach the 6 claws and remove the steering sensor.
