Removal [10/2015 - ]: Procedure

  1. DISABLE AUTO TILT AWAY FUNCTION 
    1. Disable the autoaway/return function by changing the customize parameter.

      Refer to CUSTOMIZE PARAMETERS [10/2015 - ]

      NOTE:

      Record the current customize parameter setting (whether the autoaway/return function is enabled or disabled) in order to restore the current setting after finishing the operation.

      HINT: 

      Performing the above operation causes the autoaway/return function to be disabled when the engine switch is turned off.

    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG). Operate the tilt and telescopic switch to fully extend and lower the steering column assembly.
    3. Turn the engine switch off.
  2. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to REMOVAL [10/2015 - 09/2017] , or Refer to REMOVAL [09/2017 - ]

  3. INSPECT SPIRAL CABLE WITH SENSOR SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Check the colored roller (yellow) or flat cable shown in the illustration.

      *A w/o Steering Heater
      *B w/ Steering Heater

      *b Flat Cable

      If the colored roller (yellow) or flat cable shown in the illustration cannot be confirmed, it is possible that the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly is broken. Replace the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly with a new one.

  4. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 6 [10/2015 - 09/2017], or Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 6 [09/2017 - ]

  5. REMOVE SPIRAL CABLE WITH SENSOR SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    NOTE:
    • Do not replace the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly with the battery connected and the engine switch on (IG).
    • Do not rotate the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly with the battery connected and the engine switch on (IG).
    • Ensure that the steering wheel is installed and aligned straight when inspecting the steering sensor.
    1. Check that the engine switch is off.
    2. Check that the cable is disconnected from the negative (-) battery terminal.
      WARNING:
      • Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.
      • If the airbag deploys for any reason, it may cause a serious accident.

    3. Slide the slider to release the lock, and then disconnect the yellow airbag connector.

      NOTE:

      When disconnecting any airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.

    4. Disconnect the connectors.
    5. Disengage the claws to remove the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly.
