Installation [10/2015 - ]: Procedure

  1. INSPECT SPIRAL CABLE WITH SENSOR SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Check if the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly is centered.

      *1 Alignment Mark *2 Colored Roller (Yellow)
      *3 Flat Cable - -

      HINT: 

      When the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly is centered, the alignment marks are aligned and the colored roller (yellow) or flat cable shown in the illustration is visible.

    2. If the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly is not centered, center it.

      If the cable cannot be centered, it is possible that the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly is broken. Replace the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly with a new one.

      1. While pushing on the interlock indicated in the illustration, rotate the spiral cable sub-assembly counterclockwise slowly by hand until it stops.

        Interlock
        NOTE:
        • When rotating the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly, make sure to push on the interlock indicated in the illustration to release the interlock mechanism.
        • Do not turn the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly using the airbag wire harness.
      2. Rotate the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly approximately 2.5 rotations in the clockwise direction from the locked position until the colored roller (yellow) or flat cable can be seen, and then align the alignment marks.

        HINT: 

        The spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly will rotate approximately 2.5 turns to both the left and right from the center.

  2. INSTALL SPIRAL CABLE WITH SENSOR SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    NOTE:
    • Do not replace the spiral cable with the battery connected and the engine switch on (IG).
    • Do not rotate the spiral cable with the battery connected and the engine switch on (IG).
    • Ensure that the steering wheel is installed and aligned straight when inspecting the steering sensor.
    1. Check that the engine switch is off.
    2. Check that the cable is disconnected from the negative (-) battery terminal.
      WARNING:
      • Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

      • If the airbag deploys for any reason, it may cause a serious accident.
    3. Check that the front wheels are facing straight ahead.
    4. Engage the claws to install the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly.
      NOTE:

      When replacing the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly with a new one, remove the lock pin before installing the steering wheel assembly.

    5. Connect the connectors.
    6. Connect the airbag connector and check that the slider is in the lock position.
      NOTE:

      When connecting any airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.

  3. INSTALL STEERING COLUMN COVER 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 9

  4. TURN FRONT WHEELS TO FACE STRAIGHT AHEAD 
  5. ADJUST SPIRAL CABLE WITH SENSOR SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    NOTE:

    Do not adjust the spiral cable with the battery connected and the engine switch on (IG).

    1. Check that the engine switch is off.
    2. Check that the cable is disconnected from the negative (-) battery terminal.
      WARNING:
      • Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

    3. Check if the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly is centered.

    5. While pushing on the interlock indicated in the illustration, rotate the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly counterclockwise slowly by hand until it stops.

      Interlock
      NOTE:
      • When rotating the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly, make sure to push on the interlock indicated in the illustration to release the interlock mechanism.
      • Do not turn the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly using the airbag wire harness.
    6. While pushing on the interlock indicated, rotate the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly clockwise approximately 2.5 turns to the position where the colored roller (yellow) or flat cable is visible.
      NOTE:
      • When rotating the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly, make sure to push on the interlock indicated in the illustration to release the interlock mechanism.
      • Do not turn the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly using the airbag wire harness.

      HINT: 

      The spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly will rotate approximately 2.5 turns to both the left and right from the center.

      Interlock
  6. INSTALL STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to INSTALLATION [10/2015 - 09/2017] , or Refer to INSTALLATION [09/2017 - ]

  7. ENABLE AUTOAWAY/RETURN FUNCTION 
    1. Restore the autoaway/return function setting to the previous condition by changing the customize parameter.

      Refer to CUSTOMIZE PARAMETERS [10/2015 - ]
