On-Vehicle Inspection [04/2013 - 10/2017]: Procedure

  1. INSPECT CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Start the engine.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Turn the A/C switch on.
    5. Inspect the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (for intake camshaft).
      1. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test / Control the VVT Linear (Bank 1).

        Powertrain > Engine > Active Test 

        Tester Display
        Control the VVT Linear (Bank1)
      2. Check the engine speed while operating the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly using the Techstream.

        Standard Condition

        Control Range Specified Condition
        0% Normal engine speed
        100% Engine idles roughly or stalls

        If the operation is not as specified, check the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly, wire harness and ECM.

      3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test / Control the VVT Linear (Bank 2).

        Powertrain > Engine > Active Test 

        Tester Display
        Control the VVT Linear (Bank2)
      4. Check the engine speed while operating the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly using the Techstream.

        Standard Condition

        Control Range Specified Condition
        0% Normal engine speed
        100% Engine idles roughly or stalls

        If the operation is not as specified, check the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly, wire harness and ECM.

    6. Inspect the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (for exhaust camshaft).
      1. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test / Control the VVT Exhaust Linear (Bank 1).

        Powertrain > Engine > Active Test 

        Tester Display
        Control the VVT Exhaust Linear (Bank1)
      2. Check the engine speed while operating the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly using the Techstream.

        Standard Condition

        Control Range Specified Condition
        0% Normal engine speed
        100% Engine idles roughly or stalls

        If the operation is not as specified, check the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly, wire harness and ECM.

      3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test / Control the VVT Exhaust Linear (Bank 2).

        Powertrain > Engine > Active Test 

        Tester Display
        Control the VVT Exhaust Linear (Bank2)
      4. Check the engine speed while operating the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly using the Techstream.

        Standard Condition

        Control Range Specified Condition
        0% Normal engine speed
        100% Engine idles roughly or stalls

        If the operation is not as specified, check the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly, wire harness and ECM.
