Replacement [09/2017 - ]: Procedure
- REPLACE BRAKE FLUID
- Remove the brake master cylinder reservoir filler cap assembly.
- Add brake fluid to keep the level between the MIN and MAX lines of the reservoir while replacing the brake fluid.
Brake Fluid
SAE J1703 or FMVSS No. 116 DOT3
NOTE:- Make sure that there is sufficient brake fluid in the reservoir.
- Do not remove the filter from the brake master cylinder reservoir and be sure to fill the brake master cylinder reservoir with new brake fluid to avoid any potential contamination of the brake system. Contamination, for example by dirt particles or mineral oil, could lead to functional brake problems.
- Disconnect the pad wear indicator wire assembly from the clamp of front disc brake dust cover.
- Disconnect the bleeder plug cap portion of the front pad wear indicator wire assembly from the front disc brake bleeder plug.
- Connect the vinyl tube to the bleeder plugs.
- Depress the brake pedal several times, and then loosen the bleeder plug with the pedal depressed.*1NOTE:
Add fluid as necessary so that the fluid in the reservoir does not decrease below the MIN level.
- When fluid stops coming out, tighten the bleeder plug, and then release the brake pedal.*2
- Repeat *1 and *2 until all the air in the brake fluid is completely bled out.
- Tighten the bleeder plug completely.
Torque: 18.5 N*m (189 kgf*cm, 14 ft.*lbf)
- Connect the bleeder plug cap portion of the front pad wear indicator wire assembly to the front disc brake bleeder plug as shown in the illustration.NOTE:
Perform this step without the pad wear indicator wire assembly installed to the front disc brake dust cover clamp.
*a 0° +/- 30° HINT:
- Use the same procedure for the RH side and LH side.
- The following procedure is for the LH side.
- Repeat the above procedure for each wheel to bleed the brake line.
- Inspect for brake fluid leaks.
- Inspect the brake fluid level in the reservoir.
Refer to ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION [10/2015 - ]
- Install the brake master cylinder reservoir filler cap assembly.
- Remove the brake master cylinder reservoir filler cap assembly.
