Removal [08/2015 - 08/2019]: Procedure

  1. PLACE FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD 
  2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    WARNING:

    Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

    NOTE:
    • w/ Navigation System:

      After the engine switch is turned off, the display and navigation module display (navigation system) records various types of memory and settings. As a result, after turning the engine switch off, be sure to wait for the time specified in the following table before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

      Condition Waiting Time
      Vehicle enrolled in safety connect system 6 minutes
      Vehicle not enrolled in safety connect system 1 minute
    • When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected (Refer to INITIALIZATION [08/2015 - 08/2019] ).
  3. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the steering wheel assembly (Refer to REMOVAL [08/2015 - 08/2019] ).
  4. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN LOWER COVER 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 6

  5. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN UPPER COVER 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 8

  6. REMOVE SPIRAL WITH SENSOR CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the spiral with sensor cable sub-assembly (Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 5 ).
      NOTE:
      • Do not replace the spiral cable with the battery connected and the engine switch on.
      • Do not rotate the spiral cable with the battery connected and the engine switch on.
      • Make sure that the steering wheel is installed and aligned straight when inspecting the steering angle sensor.
      • Do not remove the steering angle sensor from the spiral cable.
