Injection Pump Timing

  1. Bring No. 1 cylinder to TDC on compression stroke. Ensure timing mark indicator and the notch in the crankshaft pulley are aligned. No. 1 cylinder camshaft lobes must be pointing up. See Fig 1 .

  2. Remove all injection pipes. Set cold start device to free position. Turn cold start device linkage clockwise and insert a block 0.59" (15 mm) between device and linkage.
  3. Remove plug bolt from rear side of injection pump. Attach dial indicator and adapter (KV11229352) to measure pump plunger lift. Loosen pump nuts and bracket bolt. Turn crankshaft 15°-20° from TDC counterclockwise. Set dial indicator to zero. See Fig 2 .

  4. Turn crankshaft clockwise until No. 1 cylinder is at TDC. Dial indicator gauge should read .0358-.0382" (.91-.97 mm). If dial indicator is outside specifications, rotate pump body and retest plunger stroke lift. Repeat this operation until reading falls within specifications.
  5. Remove adapter with dial indicator and replace plug bolt using new gasket. Connect fuel injection tubes in the order of 4, 3, 2 and 1. Bleed fuel system.
