ISSUE & TIP
A poor vacuum signal at the vacuum control modulator (VCM) on 1984-87 Nissan Sentras will cause stalling, a high idle, and no fast idle when cold. To find the cause of the poor vacuum signal:
- Check the length of hose that runs from the intake manifold to the VCM for breakage or collapse.
- Check the vacuum source for this hose. Because of its location near the EGR valve. This vacuum tee may become clogged with carbon deposits.
- Clean out the vacuum tee if it is clogged, then recheck the vacuum source with a vacuum gauge. You should read manifold vacuum at the tee and at the VCM inlet port.
