Symptom Diagnosis

Symptom checks cannot be used properly unless the problem occurs while vehicle is being tested. To reduce diagnostic time, ensure steps in BASIC TESTING and TESTS W/CODES article in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE Section were performed before diagnosing a symptom. Symptoms available for diagnosis include the following:

• Hard Start/Will Not Start - Cold, Normal Conditions, Hot
• High Idle - Warm
• Unstable Idling - After Warm-Up, Hunting
• Hesitation - Cold, Normal Conditions, Hot
• Poor Driveability - Lack Of Power/Stumble, Surge, Detonation
• Engine Stall - Cold, Hot, On Momentary Acceleration, After Deceleration, Acceleration Or Cruising, Heavy Electrical Load, While Turning
• Backfire - Intake, Exhaust.
