Radiator (Cooling) Fan Control Test

WARNING: Be careful not to overheat engine during radiator fan control test.
  1. A fault in radiator fan control circuit may set DTC 28 (P1900). To test system, see DTC 28 (P1900) diagnostic procedures in the TESTS W/CODES - 2.0L article. To test radiator fan, go to next step.
  2. Start engine and warm to operating temperature. Set temperature lever to full cold. Turn A/C switch on. Turn blower fan switch on. Run engine at idle with A/C on for several minutes. Ensure radiator fan operates at low speed (high speed on A/T equipped models). Turn A/C switch and fan switch off. Turn ignition (engine) off.
  3. On A/T equipped models, disconnect engine coolant temperature sensor harness connector. Connect a 150-ohm resistor to engine coolant temperature sensor harness connector. Start engine and ensure radiator fan comes on.
  4. If radiator fan operates as specified (all models), cooling fan is functioning properly. If radiator fan does not operate as specified (all models), go to RADIATOR FAN MOTOR TEST  and DTC 28 (P1900) diagnostic procedures in the TESTS W/CODES - 2.0L article.
