DTC P1110 - Valve Timing Control (VTC)

  1. Check Power Supply  - Turn ignition off. Disconnect VTC solenoid harness connector. See Fig 1. Turn ignition on. Using a voltmeter, measure voltage between VTC solenoid valve harness connector terminal No. 2 (Brown wire) and ground. If battery voltage does not exist, check for blown fuse No. 21 or fault in Brown wire. Repair or replace as required. If battery voltage exists, go to next step.
  2. Check Output Signal Circuit  - Turn ignition off. Disconnect ECM harness connector. Using an ohmmeter, check continuity between ECM harness connector terminal No. 114 and VTC solenoid valve harness connector terminal No. 1 (Yellow/Red wire). If no continuity exists, repair open in Yellow/Red wire. If continuity exists, go to next step.
  3. Check Component  - Remove VTC solenoid valve. Using jumper wire, supply battery voltage to VTC solenoid terminals. Ensure solenoid plunger operates. If plunger does not operate, replace VTC solenoid. If plunger operates, check engine oil pressure and intake air system. Disconnect system harness connectors and inspect for damage or corrosion. Check ECM pins and terminals for damage or corrosion. Repair as necessary and retest.
