Sensor Range Charts

Sensor operating range information can help determine if a sensor is out of calibration. An out-of-calibration sensor may not set a diagnostic trouble code, but it may cause driveability problems.

NOTE: Perform all voltage tests using a Digital Volt-Ohmmeter (DVOM) with a minimum 10-megohm input impedance, unless stated otherwise in test procedure. To identify ECM terminals, see appropriate wiring diagram in WIRING DIAGRAMS article.

(1) Carefully suspend sensor in engine oil without immersing terminals. Slowly heat sensor and measure resistance across sensor terminals.

(1) Carefully suspend sensor in water without immersing terminals. Slowly heat sensor using water or a heat gun, and measure resistance across sensor terminals.

(1) Measure resistance between HO2S terminals No. 1 and 3. Continuity should not exist between center terminal and outer terminals.
