DTC Confirmation Test (Using CONSULT-II)

  1. Install vacuum gauge in hose between EGR valve and EGRC-BPT valve.
  2. Start engine and warm to normal operating temperature. Turn ignition off and wait at least 5 seconds.
  3. Turn ignition on. Select EGRC-BPT VLV P0402 of EGR SYSTEM in DTC WORK SUPPORT mode with CONSULT-II.
  4. Start engine and let it idle. Press START. Note THRTL POS SEN voltage at closed throttle.
  5. When the following conditions are met, TESTING will be displayed and bar chart may increase. Maintain conditions until TESTING changes to COMPLETED.
    • ENG SPEED: 1400-1800 RPM (A/T) or 1400-2000 RPM (M/T).
    • Vehicle speed: 19-34 MPH (A/T) or 19-62 MPH (M/T).
    • B/FUEL SCHDL: 5.5-8.0 msec (A/T) or 5.0-7.5 msec (M/T).
    • THRTL POS SEN: (X - (X + 0.88) volts (X = voltage measured at step  4 ).
NOTE: The bar chart on CONSULT-II screen indicates the status of this test. However, the test may be finished before the bar chart becomes full scale. If the bar chart indication does not continue to progress, completely release accelerator pedal and try to meet the conditions again. If TESTING is not displayed, retry from step  2 .
  6. If CONSULT-II instructs to perform overall function check, go to next step. If NG is displayed, go to DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE  .
  7. Open hood. Hold engine speed at 2400-3200 RPM under no load. Press NEXT on CONSULT-II screen.
  8. Observe vacuum gauge while engine speed is at 2400-3200 RPM. Vacuum should be 0-5.91 in. Hg. If vacuum is not as specified, go to DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE  . If vacuum is specified, press YES on CONSULT-II screen.
  9. Check for EGR valve lifting while increasing engine speed quickly from 2000-4000 RPM. EGR valve should lift, then go down without sticking when engine is returned to idle. If operation is not as specified, check EGR valve. If operation is as specified, press YES on CONSULT-II screen.
  10. Check hose between intake manifold collector, EGRC solenoid valve, EGR valve and EGRC-BPT valve for cracks, blockages or twisting. If problem is found, repair as necessary. If problem is not found, press YES on CONSULT-II screen.
