DTC Confirmation Test (Using CONSULT-II)

NOTE: Perform DTC WORK SUPPORT when fuel level is between 1/4 and 3/4 and vehicle is placed on a level surface. Perform test when ambient temperature is 32-86°F (0-30°C).
  1. Open hood. Turn ignition on. Turn ignition off and wait at least 10 seconds. Turn ignition on and select DATA MONITOR mode with CONSULT-II.
  2. Ensure the following conditions are met:

    2.4L Models -

    • COOLAN TEMP/S: 32-158°F (0-70°C).
    • INT/A TEMP SE: 32-140°F (0-60°C).

    3.3L Models -

    • COOLAN TEMP/S: 32-90°F (0-32°C).
    • INT/A TEMP SE: more than 32°F (0°C).
  3. Select EVAP SML LEAK P0442/P1442 of EVAPORATIVE SYSTEM in DTC WORK SUPPORT mode with CONSULT- II.
  4. Follow instructions displayed on CONSULT-II. If CAN NOT BE DIAGNOSED is displayed, turn ignition off and stabilize vehicle temperature at 77°F (25°C) or cooler. If engine speed cannot be maintained within range displayed on CONSULT-II screen, perform BASIC INSPECTION. See ON-VEHICLE ADJUSTMENTS article.
  5. If OK is displayed, system is okay at this time. If NG is displayed, go to next step.
    NOTE: Ensure EVAP hoses are connected to EVAP canister purge volume control solenoid valve properly.
  6. Stop engine and wait at least 5 seconds. Turn ignition on. Disconnect hose from water separator. See Figure . Select VENT CONTROL/V of ACTIVE TEST mode with CONSULT-II.
  7. Touch ON and OFF alternately. When VENT CONTROL/V is OFF, air should flow between ports "A" and "B". See Figure . When VENT CONTROL/V is ON, air should not flow between ports "A" and "B".
  8. If operation is not as specified, go to DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE  . If operation is as specified, go to DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE  under DTC P0442: EVAP CONTROL SYSTEM.
