DTC Confirmation Test (Using Generic Scan Tool)

WARNING: Never remove the radiator cap when the engine is hot. Serious burns could be caused by high pressure fluid escaping from the radiator.
NOTE: Use the following test to check overall function of cooling fan. During this test, 1st trip DTC may not be confirmed.
  1. Allow engine to cool. Check coolant level in radiator and reservoir tank. If coolant level is okay, go to next step. If coolant level is low, go to DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE .
  2. If coolant was filled by customer, go to DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE . If coolant was not filled by customer, go to next step.
CAUTION: Be careful not to overheat engine.
  3. Start engine. Set temperature control lever to full cold position. Turn A/C and blower ON. Let engine idle for a few minutes with A/C operating.
  4. Cooling fan should operate at low speed. If cooling fan operates as specified, go to next step. If cooling fan does not operate as specified, go to DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE .
  5. Turn ignition off. Turn A/C and blower OFF. Disconnect ECT sensor harness connector. See Figure. Connect a 150ohm resistor between ECT sensor harness connector terminals. Start engine.
  6. Cooling fan should operate at high speed. If cooling fan operates as specified, system is okay at this time. If cooling fan does not operate as specified, go to DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE .
