Description & Operation: Notes

The generator provides DC voltage to operate the vehicle's electrical system and to keep the battery charged. The voltage output is controlled by the IC regulator.

Power is supplied at all times to generator terminal "B" through 100-amp (1.8L) or 120-amp (2.5L) fusible link (letter "A", located in the fuse and fusible link box).

Power is supplied at all times to generator terminal "S" through 10-amp fuse (No. 33, located in the fuse and fusible link box).

Terminal "B" supplies power to charge the battery and operate the vehicle's electrical system. Output voltage is controlled by the IC regulator at terminal "S" detecting the input voltage. The charging circuit is protected by the 100-amp (1.8L) or 120-amp (2.5L) fusible link. The generator is grounded to the engine block.

On models produced for 2003 model years, when the ignition switch is in the "ON" or "START" position; power is supplied through 10-amp fuse No. 30, located in the fuse block (J/B), to combination meter terminal No. 26, for models not equipped with tachometer, or No. 41, for models equipped with tachometer, for the charge warning lamp.

On models produced for 2004 model year, when the ignition switch is in the "ON" or "START" position; power is supplied through 10-amp fuse No. 30, located in the fuse block (J/B), to combination meter terminals 20 and 26 (on models not equipped with tachometer), terminals 6 and 41 (on 1.8L models equipped with tachometer), or terminals 7 and 14 (on 2.5L models) for the charge warning lamp.

Ground is supplied to terminal 13 (on models not equipped with tachometer) or 19 (on models equipped with tachometer) of combination meter through terminal "L" of generator. On models produced in 2004 equipped with 2.5L, ground is supplied to terminal No. 23 of combination meter through terminal "L" of the generator. With power and ground supplied, the charge warning lamp will illuminate. When the generator is providing sufficient voltage with the engine running, the ground is opened and the charge warning lamp will go off.

If the charge warning lamp illuminates with the engine running, a fault is indicated.
