Optical sensor System Inspection

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Nissan Murano. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. CHECK OPTICAL SENSOR INPUT SIGNAL

    With CONSULT-II

Select "BCM" on CONSULT-II. With "HEAD LAMP" data monitor, make sure "OPTICAL SENSOR", check difference in the voltage when the auto light sensor is illuminated and not illuminated.

    Illuminated

    OPTICAL SENSOR: 3.1V or more

    Not illuminated

    OPTICAL SENSOR: 0.6V or less

CAUTION: Optical sensor must be securely subjected to work lamp light. If the optical sensor is insufficiently illuminated, the measured value may not satisfy the standard.

    Without CONSULT-II

    GO TO 2.

    OK or NG

    1. OK: INSPECTION END
    2. NG: GO TO 2.
  2. CHECK OPTICAL SENSOR POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT
    1. Turn ignition switch OFF
    2. Disconnect BCM connector and optical sensor connector.
    3. Check continuity (open circuit) between BCM harness connector M34 terminal 17 (BR/Y) and optical sensor harness connector M16 terminal 1 (BR/Y).

      17 (BR/Y) - 1 (BR/Y): Continuity should exist

    4. Check continuity (short circuit) between BCM harness connector M34 terminal 17 (BR/Y) and ground.

17 (BR/Y) - Ground: Continuity should not exist.

    OK or NG

    1. OK: GO TO 3.
    2. NG: Repair harness or connector.
  3. CHECK OPTICAL SENSOR SIGNAL CIRCUIT
    1. Check continuity (open circuit) between BCM harness connector M34 terminal 14 (W) and optical sensor harness connector M16 terminal 2 (W).

      14 (W) - 2 (W): Continuity should exist.

    2. Check continuity (short circuit) between BCM harness connector M34 terminal 14 (W) and ground.

14 (W) - Ground: Continuity should not exist.

  5. CHECK OPTICAL SENSOR VOLTAGE
    1. Connect BCM connector.
    2. Turn ignition switch ON.
    3. Check voltage between BCM harness connector M34 terminal 17 (BR/Y) and ground.

      17 (BR/Y) - Ground: Approx. 5V should exist.

    OK or NG

    1. OK: Replace the optical sensor.
