Wiper Switch

  1. Check the continuity of each terminal of the wiper switch assembly connector. See INSPECTING FRONT WIPER/WASHER SWITCH CONTINUITY . See Figure.

    Switch Position Tester Connection Specified Condition
    Front Wiper Switch
    MIST 7 (+1) - 17 (+B) Continuity
    OFF 16 (+S) - 7 (+1) Continuity
    INT (1) 16 (+S) - 7 (+1) Continuity
    AUTO (2) 16 (+S) - 7 (+1), 4 (AUTO) - 14 (E) Continuity
    LO 7 (+1) - 17 (+B) Continuity
    HI 17 (+B) - 8 (+2) Continuity
    Front Washer Switch
    OFF ..... No Continuity
    ON 11 (WF) - 2 (EW) Continuity
    (1) Without AUTO wiper system.
    (2) With AUTO wiper system.
  2. Check the intermittent operation as follows. Connect the voltmeter (+) terminal to terminal No. 7 (+1) of the connector, the voltmeter (-) terminal to terminal No. 2 (EW) of the connector. Connect the battery (+) to terminal No. 17 (+B) of the connector, the battery (-) to terminals No. 2 (EW) and 16 (+S) of the connector. Turn the wiper switch to INT. Connect the battery (+) to terminal No. 16 (+S) of the connector for 5 seconds. Connect the battery (-) to terminal No. 16 (+S) of the connector. Voltage should be as shown in illustration. See Fig 1.
  3. Check the front wiper operation as follows. Turn the wiper switch to OFF. Connect the battery (+) to terminal No. 17 (+B) of the connector, the battery (-) to terminal No. 16 (+S) and 2 (EW) to the connector. Connect the voltmeter (+) terminal to terminal No. 7 (+1) of the connector and the voltmeter (-) terminal to terminal No. 2 (EW) of the connector. Turn the washer switch to ON and OFF. Voltage should be as shown in illustration. See Fig 2.
