Inspection Procedure
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Lexus RX 300 and 2002 Lexus RX 300. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Check the input signal. See INPUT SIGNAL CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Check the indicator light operation when each of the SET/COAST, RESUME/ACCEL and CANCEL is turned on. The results are OK if:
- SET/COAST Switch - The indicator light should pulse 2 times when the switch is ON. The signal should disappear when the switch is turned OFF.
- RESUME/ACCEL Switch - The indicator light should pulse 3 times when the switch is ON. The signal should disappear when the switch is turned OFF.
- CANCEL Switch - The indicator light goes off when the cancel switch is turned ON.
- Remove the cruise control ECU with the connector still connected. Turn the ignition switch ON. Connect the positive (+) lead to terminal No. 11 (CCS) of the ECU connector and the negative (-) lead to the body ground, when each of the SET/COAST, RESUME/ACCEL and CANCEL is turned ON. See CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . See CRUISE CONTROL ECU TERMINAL CCS VOLTAGE table. If the results are OK, go to the next step. If the results are not OK, check the vehicle speed sensor circuit. See DTC 21: OPEN IN VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR CIRCUIT under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS.CRUISE CONTROL ECU TERMINAL CCS VOLTAGE
Switch Position Voltage Neutral 10-16 MAIN Below 0.5 RES/ACC 2.0-4.6 SET/COAST 4.0-7.9 CANCEL 6-11 - Check the control switch. Remove the steering wheel center pad. See DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article. Disconnect the control switch connector. Measure the resistance between terminals No. 3 and 4 of the control switch connector when the control switch is operated. See CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . See CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH RESISTANCE table. If the results are OK, go to the next step. If the results are not OK, replace the control switch. See CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH RESISTANCE
Switch Position Resistance (Ohms) Neutral No Continuity RES/ACC 220-260 SET/COAST 610-650 CANCEL 1520-1560 - Check the wiring harness and connector between the cruise control ECU and cruise control switch, cruise control switch and body ground. If the results are OK, go to the next step. If the results are not OK, repair or replace the wiring harness or connector.
- Check the input signal. See step 1. If the results are OK, wait and see. If the results are not OK, check and replace the cruise control ECU. See CRUISE CONTROL ECU under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
