Inspection Procedure
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Lexus RX 300 and 2002 Lexus RX 300. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Check that the starter operates normally and that the engine starts. If the results are OK, go to the next step. If the results are not OK, replace the starter. See appropriate STARTERS article under ENGINE.
- Check the input signal. See INPUT SIGNAL CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Check the indicator light when shifting into positions except "D". The results are OK if the indicator light goes off when shifting into positions except "D". If the results are OK, check the actuator motor circuit. See DTC 11, 15: ACTUATOR MOTOR CIRCUIT under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS. If the results are not OK, go to the next step.
- Turn the ignition switch ON. Connect the positive (+) lead to terminal No. 4 (D) of the cruise control ECU connector and the negative (-) lead to body ground when shifting into the "D" range and other positions. The results are OK if there is 10-14 volts when the shift position is "D" and if there is below 1 volt when the shift position is other than "D". If the results are OK, check the actuator motor circuit. See DTC 11, 15: ACTUATOR MOTOR CIRCUIT under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS. If the results are not OK, go to the next step.
- Check the wiring harness and connector between the cruise control ECU and neutral start switch. If the results are OK, check and replace the cruise control ECU. See CRUISE CONTROL ECU under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If the results are not OK, repair or replace the wiring harness or connector.
