Front Axle Hub: Removal

HINT:
- Use the same procedures for the RH and LH side.
- The procedures listed below are for the LH side.
- REMOVE FRONT WHEEL
- DISCONNECT FRONT STABILIZER LINK ASSEMBLY
- Remove the nut, and disconnect the stabilizer link assembly.
HINT:
If the ball joint turns together with the nut, use a 6 mm hexagon wrench to hold the stud in place.
- REMOVE FRONT AXLE HUB NUT
- Using SST and a hammer, unstake the staked part of the nut.

NOTE: Loosen the staked part of the nut completely, otherwise the screw of the drive shaft may be damaged. - While applying the brakes, remove the lock axle hub nut.
- Using SST and a hammer, unstake the staked part of the nut.
- DISCONNECT FRONT SPEED SENSOR
- Remove the bolt, and disconnect the speed sensor wire and flexible hose from the shock absorber.
HINT:
Be careful not to damage the speed sensor.
- Remove the bolt, and separate the speed sensor front from the steering knuckle.
NOTE:- Be careful not to damage the speed sensor.
- Prevent foreign matter from attaching to the speed sensor.
- Remove the bolt, and disconnect the speed sensor wire and flexible hose from the shock absorber.
- DISCONNECT FRONT DISC BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY
- Remove the 2 bolts and disconnect the disc brake caliper from the steering knuckle.
NOTE:- Use a string or equivalent to keep the brake caliper from hanging down by the flexible hose.
- The friction surface of the pad and disc must be free from oil, grease and paint.
- REMOVE FRONT DISC NOTE: There should be no oil or grease on the friction surface of the pad and disc.
- DISCONNECT TIE ROD END SUB-ASSEMBLY
- Remove the cotter pin and nut.
- Using SST, disconnect the tie rod end from the steering knuckle.

- DISCONNECT FRONT NO. 1 SUSPENSION LOWER ARM SUB-ASSEMBLY
- Remove the bolt and 2 nuts, and disconnect the suspension lower arm from the lower ball joint.
- REMOVE FRONT AXLE ASSEMBLY
- Using a plastic-faced hammer, disconnect the drive shaft from the axle hub.NOTE: Be careful not to damage the boot and speed sensor rotor.
- Remove the 2 bolts, 2 nuts and steering knuckle from the shock absorber.
- Using a plastic-faced hammer, disconnect the drive shaft from the axle hub.
- REMOVE FRONT LOWER BALL JOINT ASSEMBLY
- Remove the cotter pin and nut.
- Using SST, remove the ball joint.
SST 09628-62011
- REMOVE FRONT AXLE HUB HOLE SNAP RING
- Using snap ring pliers, remove the hole snap ring.
- REMOVE FRONT AXLE HUB SUB-ASSEMBLY
- Hold the steering knuckle lightly in a soft vise.NOTE: Do not overtighten the vise.
- Using SST, remove the axle hub.
SST 09520-00031
- Using SST, remove the bearing inner race (outside) from the axle hub.
SST 09950-40011 (09951-04020, 09952-04010, 09953-04030, 09954-04010, 09955-04061, 09957-04010, 09958-04010), 09950-60010 (09951-00370)
- Hold the steering knuckle lightly in a soft vise.
- REMOVE FRONT DISC BRAKE DUST COVER
- Remove the 3 bolts and front disc brake dust cover from the steering knuckle.
- REMOVE FRONT AXLE HUB BEARING
- Place the bearing inner race (outside) on the axle hub bearing.
- Using SST and a press, press out the axle hub bearing from the steering knuckle.
