On-Vehicle Service: Adjustment

  1. Engage parking brake lever to access adjusting nut hole below grip.
  2. Insert a deep socket wrench onto adjusting nut. Rotate adjusting nut to fully loosen cable, and then release parking brake lever.

  3. Depress the foot brake about 10 times and adjust the rear shoe clearance (rear drum brake type only).
    CAUTION: Be sure to securely depress the foot brake.
  4. Adjust the parking brake shoe clearance (rear drum in disc brake type only). Refer to "REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION ".
  5. Rotate brake drum or disc rotor to make sure that there is no drag.
  6. Adjust parking brake cable with the following procedure.
    1. Operate parking brake lever with the specified force about 10 times.

      Rear drum brake type 196 N (20.0 kg-f, 44.1 lb-f) 

      Rear drum in disc brake type 294 N (30.0 kg-f, 66.1 lb-f) 

    2. Engage parking brake lever to access adjusting nut hole below grip.
    3. Rotate adjusting nut to adjust parking brake lever stroke using a deep socket wrench.
    4. Operate parking brake lever with the specified force, make sure the parking brake lever stroke is within the specified number of notches. Refer to "PARKING BRAKE CONTROL ". (Check it by listening and counting ratchet clicks.)
    5. Make sure that there is no drag on rear brake or parking brake shoe with parking brake lever completely released.
