SERVICE INFORMATION

For testing purposes, both the auto-lock function and the auto-unlock function can be disabled or enabled independently of each other. Vehicles are shipped from the factory with both features enabled.

The following information will confirm normal auto-lock and auto-unlock function and provide direction on how to temporarily disable and then re-enable both of these features.

NOTE: Some models may have additional functions that can only be changed with CONSULT. This bulletin only covers those features that can be changed without CONSULT.

FUNCTION DESCRIPTION

Auto-lock with speed: All doors lock automatically when the vehicle speed reaches 15 mph. (24 km/h)
Auto-unlock: All doors unlock automatically when the ignition is placed in the OFF position (models with Intelligent Key system) or when the key is removed from the ignition switch (models without Intelligent Key system).

If there is a concern about how either of these functions operates:

Make sure that power locks work properly (confirm by pressing power lock and unlock switches)
See the procedures below to test the Auto-lock/unlock modes independently. Modes can also be tested with CONSULT. Refer to the appropriate section of the Electronic Service Manual (ESM) for additional information.

IMPORTANT: After testing or service, both auto-lock and auto-unlock features must be reenabled before a vehicle is returned to the customer.

MODE CHANGE TEST PROCEDURE

To change the AUTO-UNLOCK mode for testing purposes, perform the following procedure:

First, close all doors.
Then place the ignition switch in the ON position,
And do the following within 20 seconds of performing Step b
- To change AUTO-UNLOCK settings, push and hold the power door lock switch to the unlock position for more than 5 seconds.
- The hazard warning lights will flash when the mode change is confirmed.
Turn the ignition switch OFF, and then back ON again.

To change the AUTO-LOCK mode for testing purposes, perform the following procedure:

First, close all doors.
Then place the ignition switch in the ON position,
And do the following within 20 seconds of performing Step b
- To change AUTO-LOCK settings, push and hold the power door lock switch to the lock position for more than 5 seconds.
- The hazard warning lights will flash when the mode change is confirmed.
Turn the ignition switch OFF, and then back ON again.
NOTE:
- When the auto-lock or auto-unlock function is disabled, the hazard warning lights will flash once. When the auto-lock or auto-unlock function is enabled, the hazard warning lights will flash twice.
- Only one mode change (auto-lock OR auto-unlock) per ignition cycle is allowed.
