SERVICE INFORMATION

For testing purposes, both the auto-lock function and the auto-unlock function can be disabled or enabled independently  of each other. Vehicles are shipped from the factory with both features enabled.

The following information will confirm normal auto-lock and auto-unlock function and provide direction on how to temporarily disable and then re-enable both of these features.

NOTE: Some models may have additional functions that can only be changed with CONSULT. This bulletin only covers those features that can be changed without CONSULT.

FUNCTION DESCRIPTION

If there is a concern about how either of these functions operates:

  1. Make sure that power locks work properly (confirm by pressing power lock and unlock switches)
  2. See the procedures below to test the Auto-lock/unlock modes independently. Modes can also be tested with CONSULT. Refer to the appropriate section of the Electronic Service Manual (ESM) for additional information.
IMPORTANT: After testing or service, both auto-lock and auto-unlock features must  be reenabled before a vehicle is returned to the customer.

MODE CHANGE TEST PROCEDURE

To change the AUTO-UNLOCK mode for testing purposes, perform the following procedure:

  1. First, close all doors.
  2. Then place the ignition switch in the ON position,
  3. And do the following within 20 seconds of performing Step b
    • To change AUTO-UNLOCK  settings, push and hold the power door lock switch to the unlock position for more than 5 seconds.
    • The hazard warning lights will flash when the mode change is confirmed.
  4. Turn the ignition switch OFF, and then back ON again.

To change the AUTO-LOCK  mode for testing purposes, perform the following procedure:

  1. First, close all doors.
  2. Then place the ignition switch in the ON position,
  3. And do the following within 20 seconds of performing Step b
    • To change AUTO-LOCK  settings, push and hold the power door lock switch to the lock position for more than 5 seconds.
    • The hazard warning lights will flash when the mode change is confirmed.
  4. Turn the ignition switch OFF, and then back ON again.
    NOTE:
    • When the auto-lock or auto-unlock function is disabled, the hazard warning lights will flash once. When the auto-lock or auto-unlock function is enabled, the hazard warning lights will flash twice.
    • Only one mode change (auto-lock OR auto-unlock) per ignition cycle is allowed.
