Code 17, Vehicle Speed PULSER

  1. Operate cruise control. If cruise control does not function properly, repair cruise control prior to proceeding with test. If cruise control functions properly, proceed to next step.
  2. Connect system checker harness between ECU and connector. Disconnect "B" connector from right side wire harness. Turn ignition on. Check voltage between terminals B11 (pos.) and A18 (neg.). Voltage should be approximately 5 volts.
  3. If within specifications, proceed to step 4). If not within specifications, substitute a known good ECU. If condition is rectified, replace original ECU.
  4. If voltage exists, turn ignition off. Reconnect "B" connector to right side wire harness. Block rear wheels and set parking brake. Raise front of vehicle and support with stands. Turn ignition on. Slowly rotate left front wheel and measure voltage between terminals B11 (pos.) and A18 (neg.).
  5. If voltage pulses from 0-5 volts, proceed to step 7). If no voltage pulse exists, check if voltage holds at zero volt and at 5 volts. If voltage holds at 5 volts, repair open in Yellow/Red wire between ECU terminal B11 and speed pulser or replace speed pulser.
  6. If voltage holds at zero volt, disconnect connectors from right side wire harness only, not ECU. Measure voltage between terminals B11 (pos.) and A18 (neg.). If reading is about 5 volts, repair short in Yellow/Red wire between ECU terminal B11 and speed pulser or replace speed pulser.
  7. Substitute a known good ECU. If condition is rectified, replace original ECU.
