Shift Interlock System
- To check system operation, ensure shift lever is in Park. Turn ignition on. Depress brake pedal with accelerator pedal in idle position.
- If shift lock solenoid clicks, system is working properly. If shift lock solenoid fails to click, proceed to step 3). If shift lever cannot be moved from Park, check for proper installation procedure of shift lock solenoid. See SHIFT LOCK SOLENOID
under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- Disconnect 8-pin connector from interlock control unit. Interlock control unit is located behind driver's side of instrument panel and contains an 8-pin connector. See Figure
.
NOTE:
Per manufacturer in Acura Service News bulletin number ASN 0792-08
, voltages retrieved in steps 4) and 5) have been updated. For 1992 models, changes have been made to the following text.
- Turn ignition on and depress brake pedal. Using voltmeter, check for battery voltage at Blue
/Black
wire of 8-pin connector and ground. Battery voltage should exist.
- With brake pedal still depressed, depress accelerator pedal. Ensure brake pedal and accelerator are held down at the same time. Check for voltage at Blue
/Black
wire of 8-pin connector and ground. Voltage should be less than 1 Volt.
- If voltage is correct in steps 4) and 5), proceed to step 8). If voltage is not as specified in steps 4) and 5), check for defective No. 39 (20-amp) fuse in engine compartment fuse box, near battery. If fuse is okay, check for defective wiring.
- If wiring is okay, check for a defective brakelight switch or throttle angle sensor. Refer to appropriate BRAKELIGHT SWITCH
or THROTTLE ANGLE SENSOR
under COMPONENT TESTING. If all components are okay, replace ECU and recheck operation.
- Ensure shift lever is in Park. Using ohmmeter, check for continuity between Green
/White wire of 8-pin connector and ground. Continuity should exist. If continuity exists, proceed to step 10).
- If continuity does not exist, check shift position console switch. See SHIFT POSITION CONSOLE SWITCH
under COMPONENT TESTING. If shift position console switch is okay, check for defective wiring or ground connection. Ground connection is located near front of console, just below stereo.
- Ensure ignition is on. Using voltmeter, check for battery voltage at Yellow
/Black
wire of 8-pin connector and ground. Battery voltage should exist. If battery voltage exists, wiring circuit is okay.
- If battery voltage does not exist, check for defective No. 13 (7.5-amp) fuse in fuse-relay box located behind kick panel on driver's side. If fuse is okay, check for defective wiring circuit. If wiring circuit is okay, check the shift lock solenoid. Refer to the SHIFT LOCK SOLENOID
under COMPONENT TESTING.
