Piston Pin Inspection

  1. Measure diameter of piston pin. Measure diameter of piston pin bore in piston. Piston pin clearance is difference between the two measurements.
  2. Piston pin clearance must be 0.0004-0.0009" (0.010-0.022 mm). If piston pin clearance is greater than 0.0009" (0.022 mm), install an oversize piston pin and recheck clearance. Oversize pin diameter is .8267-.8269" (20.997-21.003 mm).
  3. Determine difference between piston pin diameter and connecting rod small end bore. Interference fit between piston pin and connecting rod must be 0.0005-0.0013" (0.013-0.032 mm).
