DTC P0500 - Vehicle Speed Sensor

  1. Connect and operate scan tester, following manufacturer's instructions. Test-drive vehicle. Read vehicle speed. If scan tester does not indicate correct speed, go to next step. If scan tester indicates correct speed, problem is intermittent. Inspect for poor connections or loose wires associated with VSS sensor, then repair as necessary.
  2. Turn ignition off. Block rear wheels. Set parking brake. Raise and support front of vehicle. Turn ignition on. Block right front wheel. Slowly rotate left front wheel while measuring voltage between terminal No. 26 at PCM connector "A" and terminal No. 13 at PCM connector "B". If voltage does not pulse from zero to 5 volts, go to next step. If voltage pulses from zero to 5 volts, temporarily substitute known good PCM, then recheck for DTC.
  3. Turn ignition off. Unplug connector "B" from PCM. Turn ignition on. Block right front wheel. Slowly rotate left front wheel while measuring voltage between terminal No. 26 at PCM connector "A" and terminal No. 13 at PCM connector "B". If voltage does not pulse from zero to 5 volts, repair open or short in VSS circuit (Orange wire). If voltage pulses from zero to 5 volts, temporarily substitute known good PCM, then recheck for DTC.
