- Turn ignition off. Disconnect 8-pin ignition switch harness connector, located near lower steering column. Connect ignition switch harness connector terminal No. 5 (Black/Red wire) to battery positive terminal. Connect harness connector terminal No. 4 (White/Red wire) to battery negative terminal. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . A clicking sound should be heard from key interlock solenoid. If interlock solenoid operates properly, go to next step. If interlock solenoid does not operate properly, replace ignition key cylinder/steering lock assembly.
- Connect ignition switch harness connector terminal No. 8 (White/Green wire) to battery positive terminal. Connect harness connector terminal No. 4 (White/Red wire). Turn ignition switch to ACC position, then push it in. A clicking sound should be heard when ignition key is pushed in. If key interlock solenoid operates properly, go to next step. If key interlock solenoid does not operate properly, replace ignition key cylinder/steering lock assembly.
- Disconnect driver's multiplex control unit harness connectors "A" (26-pin) and "B" (16-pin). Check for continuity between body ground and multiplex control unit harness connector "A" terminal No. 2 (Black/Red wire). Check for continuity between body ground and multiplex control unit harness connector "A" terminal No. 13 (White/Red wire). If continuity exists, repair short in circuit between affected harness connector terminal and ignition switch connector. If continuity does not exist, go to next step.
- Check continuity between body ground and driver's multiplex control unit harness connector "B" terminal No. 5 (White/Black wire). If continuity does not exist, go to next step. If continuity exists, check for short in circuit between multiplex control unit harness connector "B" terminal No. 5 (White/Black wire) and parking pin switch. If circuit is okay, check or replace parking pin switch.
- Turn ignition on. Check voltage between body ground and driver's multiplex control unit harness connector "B" terminal No. 2 (Black/Blue wire). If voltage is not present, go to next step. If voltage is present, repair open in circuit between multiplex control unit harness connector "B" terminal No. 2 (Black/Blue wire) and A/T gear position switch. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
- Check for loose driver's multiplex control unit connectors. Repair as necessary. If connectors are okay, substitute with a known-good driver's multiplex control unit and recheck systems. If symptom or problem goes away, replace original driver's multiplex control unit.
