Set/Resume Switch

NOTE: This test procedure also tests clockspring in steering column.
  1. Disable air bag system. See appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article in the ACCESSORIES/SAFETY EQUIPMENT section. Remove instrument panel lower cover and knee bolster. Locate clockspring Gray 3-pin connector under steering column, next to SIR Yellow 6-pin connector. Depress SET button to ON position. Check for continuity between clockspring Gray 3-pin connector terminals No. 1 (Light Green/Red wire) and No. 2 (Blue/Green wire). If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, go to step 3).
  2. Depress RESUME button to ON position. Check for continuity between clockspring Gray 3-pin connector terminals No. 2 (Blue/Green wire) and No. 3 (Light Green/Black). If continuity exists, switch and clockspring are okay. If continuity does not exist, go to next step.
  3. Remove SET/RESUME switch from steering wheel. See SET/RESUME SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. With switch connector index on top, terminal No. 1 is on the left. Depress SET button to ON position. Check for continuity between switch terminals No. 1 and 3. Depress RESUME button to ON position. Check for continuity between switch terminals No. 1 and 2. If continuity exists at both switch positions, replace clockspring (cable reel). See appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article in the ACCESSORIES/SAFETY EQUIPMENT section. If continuity does not exist, replace SET/RESUME switch. See SET/RESUME SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
