Distributor Ignition

Ignition coil primary winding is grounded and ungrounded (triggered) by the Ignition Control Module (ICM). When triggered, secondary voltage from the ignition coil is distributed to each spark plug by the distributor.

ICM is switched on and off by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). PCM uses input signals from Top Dead Center (TDC), Cylinder Position (CYP) and Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensors to compute basic ignition timing. In addition, ignition timing is influenced by Throttle Position (TP) sensor, Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor and Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor.
