VSA System

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
NOTE: Driving with the compact spare tire installed may cause VSA to malfunction. Turn off the system.

Vehicle Stability Assistance (VSA) system is standard equipment on "S" models with automatic transmission. It works by controlling brake pressure, engine power or both to help maintain traction. VSA will reduce engine power and/or apply brakes to reduce front or rear side slip. The system works in conjunction with TCS and ABS braking systems. If vehicle enters a corner and conditions are such that it begins to spin out (over steer), VSA automatically helps correct the problem by applying brakes to the outside front wheel. The potential for spin is reduced and puts the vehicle back on track. Also, if road conditions cause vehicle to slip sideways (under steer), VSA will decrease engine power to correct the problem. If side slip is not reduced, VSA will apply brakes to the inside front wheel to help turn the car back onto its intended course.

NOTE: For more information on brake system, see DISC - MDX, 3.2CL, 3.2TL & 3.5RL article for 2002 models or DISC - MDX, 3.2CL, 3.2TL & 3.5RL article for 2003 models.
