RSX (M/T)

  1. Check No. 4 ALT (10 amp) and No. 10 METER (7.5 amp) fuses in under-dash fuse/relay box. Disconnect VSS 3-pin harness connector on top rear of transaxle. Connect VSS Test Harness (07LAJ-PT3020A) to VSS 3-pin harness connector only. Connect positive probe of DVOM to Red test harness clip and negative probe to ground. See Figure . Check for continuity. If continuity is present, go to next step. If continuity is not present, repair open in Black wire between VSS 3-pin harness connector terminal No. 1 and ground terminal G101.
  2. Connect positive probe of DVOM to White test harness clip and negative probe to Red test harness clip. Turn ignition switch on. Check for battery voltage. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, repair open in Black/Yellow wire between VSS 3-pin harness connector terminal No. 2 and under-dash fuse/relay box 20-pin harness connector terminal No. 9.
  3. Connect positive probe of DVOM to Green test harness clip and negative probe to Red test harness clip. With ignition switch on, if 5.0 volts is present, go to next step. If 5.0 volts is not present, repair short in wire between VSS 3-pin harness connector terminal No. 3 (White/Green wire), White PCM 31-pin harness connector E terminal No. 25 (Blue/White wire) and gauge assembly 18-pin harness B connector terminal No. 15 (Blue/White wire). See Fig 1 .

  4. Turn ignition switch off. Connect other end of test harness to VSS. See Fig 2 . Raise and support front of vehicle. Place transaxle in Neutral and turn ignition on. While observing DVOM, slowly rotate front wheel with opposite wheel blocked. If voltage pulses between zero and about 5 volts, go to next step. If voltage does not pulse between zero and about 5 volts, replace VSS.
  5. Disconnect gauge assembly 18-pin harness B connector. Measure voltage between ground and gauge assembly 18-pin harness connector terminal No. 15 (Blue/White wire). While observing DVOM, slowly rotate front wheel with opposite wheel blocked. If voltage pulses between zero and about 5 volts, replace speedometer. If voltage does not pulse between zero and about 5 volts, repair open in Blue/White wire between VSS 3-pin harness connector terminal No. 3 and gauge assembly 18-pin harness B connector terminal No. 15.
