DTC P0339 Or DTC P0389
Code Definition
- DTC P0339: Crankshaft Position Sensor "A" Intermittent Interruption
- DTC P0389: Crankshaft Position Sensor "B" Intermittent Interruption
CAUTION:
When substituting or replacement of PCM is recommended, see PCM REMOVAL & REPLACEMENT
for important precautions.
NOTE:
This test covers both "A" and "B" CKP sensors circuit malfunctions. The information will be shown "A" first and "B" second. When discussion arises, "A" sensors and circuit terminals will precede "B" sensors and circuit terminals. Furthermore, "B" sensors and circuit terminals information will be enclosed in parantheses ( ).
- Note the following freeze data.
- Engine speed.
- Vehicle speed.
- Turn ignition on. Using Honda PGM Tester or the HDS, do the DTC CLEAR in the CLEAR menu.
- Start engine and let idle for 10 seconds.
- Using Honda PGM Tester or the HDS, check for CKP NOISE 1 or (2) COUNT in the DATA list. If 0 counts are indicated, go to next step. If 0 counts are not indicated, go to step 8 .
- Test drive vehicle for several minutes in the range of the recorded freeze frame data.
- Using Honda PGM Tester or the HDS, check for CKP NOISE 1 or (2) COUNT in the DATA list. If 0 counts are indicated, problem is intermittent, system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at CKP sensor A/B and PCM harness connectors. If 0 counts are not indicated, go to next step.
- Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the following locations:
- CKP sensor A/B.
- PCM.
- Engine ground.
- Body ground.
If connections and terminals are OK, go to next step. If connections and terminals are not OK, repair connections and terminals. Go to step 11 .
- Check for damage on the CKP sensor A/B pulse plate. If it is damaged, replace the CKP sensor A/B pulse plate. Go to step 11 . If it is OK, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off.
- Replace the CKP sensor A/B.
- Turn ignition on. With the Honda PGM tester or the HDS, do PCM RESET in the CLEAR menu. Go to next step.
- With the Honda PGM tester or the HDS, do the CKP PATTERN CLEAR in the CLEAR menu. Go to next step.
- Do the PCM idle learn procedure. See PCM IDLE LEARN PROCEDURE . Go to next step.
- Do the CKP pulse learn procedure. See CKP PATTERN LEARN PROCEDURE .
- Start engine and let idle for 10 seconds.
- Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs in the DTC menu. If DTCs P0339 or P0389 are set check for poor connections or loose terminals at CKP sensor A/B and PCM harness connector. Go to step 1 . If any other Temporary DTCs or DTCs are set, troubleshoot those indicated. If there are no Temporary DTCs or DTCs set, troubleshooting is complete.
