DTC P2176: Throttle Actuator Control System, Idle Position Not Learned
CAUTION:
When substituting or replacement of PCM is recommended, see PCM REMOVAL & REPLACEMENT
for important precautions.
NOTE:
If DTC P2135 is stored at the same time as DTC P2176, troubleshoot DTC P2135 first, then recheck for DTC P2176.
- Turn ignition on. Using Honda PGM Tester or the HDS, do the DTC CLEAR in the CLEAR menu. Turn ignition off.
- Turn ignition on, wait 10 seconds. Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs in the DTC menu. If DTC P2176 is set, go to next step. If DTC P2176 is not set, problem is intermittent, system is OK. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at throttle actuator control module and PCM, then clean throttle body. Remove throttle body for cleaning. Be careful not to pinch fingers. See Figure . Wipe off carbon deposits on throttle valve and inside throttle bore with a paper towel soaked in carburetor cleaner. Install throttle body. Go to step 6 .
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect air intake duct from throttle body. Turn ignition on. Using Honda PGM Tester or the HDS, do the DTC CLEAR in the CLEAR menu. Do the ETCS TEST in the INSPECTION menu. Watch throttle valve work. If the throttle valve operates to its full closed position, go to step 5 . If the throttle valve does not operate to its full closed position, substitute a known-good throttle actuator control module. Go to step 6 and recheck.
- Check for sludge or carbon on the throttle valve. If throttle valve is dirty, remove throttle body for cleaning. Be careful not to pinch fingers. See Figure . Wipe off carbon deposits on throttle valve and inside throttle bore with a paper towel soaked in carburetor cleaner. Install throttle body. Go to step 6 . If throttle valve is not dirty, go to 5
- Turn ignition off. Replace throttle body.
- Turn ignition on. With the Honda PGM tester or the HDS, do PCM RESET in the CLEAR menu. Do the PCM idle learn procedure. See PCM IDLE LEARN PROCEDURE . Turn ignition off. Turn ignition on, wait 10 seconds. Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs in the DTC menu. If DTC P2176 is set, check for poor connections or loose terminals at throttle actuator control module and PCM harness connector. Go to step 1 . If any other Temporary DTCs or DTCs are set, troubleshoot those indicated. If there are no Temporary DTCs or DTCs set, troubleshooting is complete.
