Anti-Theft System Function

  1. Turn ignition switch OFF and remove key from ignition. Close all doors, hood and trunk. Using key, lock either front door. Anti-theft system indicator light should begin flashing a pre-armed signal (one second on and one second off). If anti-theft system indicator light flashes pre-armed signal for 15 seconds, go to next step. If anti-theft system indicator light does not flash pre-armed signal for 15 seconds, system is not armed. Attempt to rearm system. If system still does not arm, ensure all door lock knob, door, trunk and/or panic button switches are not on and are operating properly. See COMPONENT TESTS  .
  2. After 15 seconds, anti-theft system indicator light should begin flashing an armed signal (0.2 second on and 2.4 seconds off). Using a key, open trunk. System should remain armed and should not activate.
  3. Activate anti-theft system. When anti-theft system is activated, horns should sound, external lights should flash and engine starter circuit should be interrupted for 2 minutes. See OPERATION  for system activation parameters.
  4. Anti-theft system should disarm when either front door is unlocked using key or remote transmitter. Anti-theft system indicator light should stop flashing.
  5. If system does not operate as specified, rearm and recheck anti-theft system operation. Go to step  1 . If system still does not operate as specified, check multiplex control unit inputs and anti-theft system switches. See MULTIPLEX CONTROL UNIT INPUTS (ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM)  .
