Registering a replacement Onstar Unit

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2006 Acura RL and 2005 Acura RL. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: If the OnStar control unit is replaced with a new unit, you must transition the replacement unit from "Shipping Mode" to "Market Mode" (see MICROPHONE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION  ), and then register the new unit with OnStar.

Begin the registration process by recording the replacement units STID and ESN serial numbers located on the unit label. Next, with the ignition switch turned ON (II), press the OnStar services button to connect to the OnStar call center. When the OneStar agent answers, provide the replacement unit's STID and ESN serial numbers. The agent will provide you with further instructions.

NOTE: If you cannot connect to the OnStar call center from the vehicle because of cellular network connections problems (the OnStar status light is blinking green), you must contact OnStar Technical Support at 800-ONSTAR-7 (800-677-2877) by regular phone.

Cellular network issues are indicated by, but not limited to, error messages like, "Your cellular number is not recognized" or "Please enter your credit card number now", etc.

Messages like these indicate the replacement unit's MIN or ESN is not being resolved by OnStar Technical Support.

If you cannot connect to the OnStar call center from the vehicle and the OnStar status light is solid or blinking red, see ONSTAR PANEL BUTTONS AND LIGHTS .
