NOTE:

The parking brake cables must not be bent or distorted This will lead to stiff operation and premature cable failure
Refer to the EXPLODED VIEW as needed during this procedure

Release the parking brake lever fully
Remove the center console (see CENTER CONSOLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION )
Remove the wire guide base (A), then disconnect the parking brake cables (B) from the equalizer (C)

Without SH-AWD Remove the heat shield (A)

Remove the parking brake cable grommets, and pull out the parking brake cable from the body floor
Remove the parking brake shoes, and disconnect the parking brake cable from the parking brake lever (see PARKING BRAKE SHOE REPLACEMENT )
Remove the parking brake cable mounting nuts from the backing plate (A), and remove the parking brake cable (B)

Remove the parking brake cable mounting hardware, then remove the cable
Install the parking brake cable in the reverse order of removal, and note these items
- Be careful not to bend or distort the cable
- Connect the parking brake cable to the brake lever, and install the brake shoes and drum (see PARKING BRAKE SHOE REPLACEMENT )
- Adjust the parking brake (see PARKING BRAKE INSPECTION AND ADJUSTMENT ) Apply the parking brake firmly 10 times then adjust it again
