Engine Controls - Hard Start/Long Crank After Hot Soak

Long Crank Time or Hard Start After "Hot/Warm Soak"

(Supercedes 09-007, dated February 7, 2009, to update the information marked by the black bars).





REVISED SUMMARY

SYMPTOM

The engine cranks a long time before starting after a 30-minute to 8-hour "soak" period (engine shut off after running at normal temperature).

PROBABLE CAUSE

The intake manifold oxygen concentration is lower than expected.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Update the PGM-FI software with the HDS.

SOFTWARE INFORMATION

HDS Software Version: 2.016.015 or later.

Control Module (CM) Update:

Application Version V6.14.06 or later.
Database Update 18-DEC-2008 or later.

NOTE:
To avoid an incorrect repair that would not be covered under warranty, use the software version listed above or a later version.





The updated PGM-FI software program ID and P/N is shown. If this, or a later program ID, is the Current Program ID displayed during the update, the software for this service bulletin is already installed.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

Update the PGM-FI software with the HDS. Refer to Service Bulletin 01-026, Updating Control Units/ Modules.
