SYMPTOM TROUBLESHOOTING INDEX

Symptom Diagnostic procedure Also check for
Cruise control cannot be set
  1. Check for PGM-FI and body DTCs.
  2. Check the No. 13 (15 A) fuse in the under-hood fuse/ relay box, and the No. 18 (15 A) fuse in the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box.
  3. Do CRUISE CONTROL INPUT TEST  .
  4. Do CRUISE CONTROL COMBINATION SWITCH TEST/REPLACEMENT  .
 -
Cruise control can be set, but the cruise main indicator does not come on
  1. Check for PGM-FI and body DTCs.
  2. Do the gauge control module self-diagnostic function procedure (see SELF-DIAGNOSTIC FUNCTION ).
  3. Do CRUISE CONTROL INPUT TEST  . Test the cruise control main switch signal input.
 Faulty gauge control module
Vehicle does not accelerate accordingly when the resume/accel button is pressed
  1. Check for PGM-FI and body DTCs.
  2. Do CRUISE CONTROL INPUT TEST  . Test the cruise control and resume/accel switch signal inputs.
  3. Do CRUISE CONTROL COMBINATION SWITCH TEST/REPLACEMENT  .
 Open circuit, loose or disconnected terminal: YEL/WHT, or LT GRN
Set speed does not cancel when the brake pedal is pressed
  1. Check for PGM-FI and body DTCs.
  2. Do CRUISE CONTROL INPUT TEST  . Test the brake pedal position switch signal input.
  • Short to power in the BRN wire
  • Faulty brake pedal position switch
Set speed does not cancel when the cruise control main button is pressed
  1. Check for PGM-FI and body DTCs.
  2. Do CRUISE CONTROL INPUT TEST  . Test the cruise control master button signal input.
  3. Do CRUISE CONTROL COMBINATION SWITCH TEST/REPLACEMENT  .
 Short to ground in the BRN or LT GRN wire
Set speed does not cancel when the cancel button is pressed
  1. Check for PGM-FI and body DTCs.
  2. Do CRUISE CONTROL INPUT TEST  . Test the cruise control cancel switch signal input.
  3. Do CRUISE CONTROL COMBINATION SWITCH TEST/REPLACEMENT  .
 Open circuit, loose or disconnected terminals:
GRN/YEL, GRY, YEL/WHT, or LT GRN
Set speed does not resume when the resume/accel button is pressed (with the cruise control main button pressed on, and set speed temporarily canceled by pressing the brake pedal)
  1. Check for PG M-FI and body DTCs.
  2. Check the brake pedal position switch adjustment (see BRAKE PEDAL AND BRAKE PEDAL POSITION SWITCH ADJUSTMENT ).
  3. Do CRUISE CONTROL INPUT TEST  . Test the cruise control resume/accel switch signal input.

    Test the brake pedal position switch signal input.

  4. Do CRUISE CONTROL COMBINATION SWITCH TEST/REPLACEMENT  .
  • Open circuit, loose or disconnected terminals:

    YEL/WHT or LT GRN

  • Faulty brake pedal position switch
With the ignition switch in ON (II), and the lighting switch turned on, the cruise control combination switch illumination does not come on Do CRUISE CONTROL COMBINATION SWITCH TEST/REPLACEMENT  . -
