Right Rear Power Window Switch Input Test

NOTE: The power window control unit is built into the right rear power window switch,
  1. Remove the right rear power window switch (see REAR PASSENGER'S  ).
  2. Disconnect the 14P connector (A) from the right rear power window switch (B).

  3. Inspect the connector and socket terminals to be sure they are all making good contact.
    • If the terminals are bent, loose or corroded, repair them as necessary and recheck the system.
    • If the terminals look OK, go to step 4.
  4. With the connector still disconnected, do the following input tests:
    • If any test indicates a problem, find and correct the cause, then recheck the system.
    • If all the input tests prove OK, go to step 5.
    Cavity Wire Test condition Test: Desired result Possible cause if desired result is not obtained
    3 GRN Power window master switch 22P connector disconnected Check for continuity between terminal No. 3 and power window master switch 22P connector terminal No. 12:
    There should be continuity.
    An open or high resistance in the wire
    Check for continuity to ground:
    There should be no continuity.
    A short to ground in the wire
    8 RED Momentarily connect terminal No. 8 to battery power with a jumper wire, and connect terminal No. 14 to body ground. Check the right rear power window motor operation:
    The motor should run (the window should go down).
    • Faulty right rear power window motor
    • An open or high resistance in the wire
    14 BLU Momentarily connect terminal No. 14 to battery power with a jumper wire, and connect terminal No. 8 to body ground. Check the right rear power window motor operation:
    The motor should run (the window should go up).
    • Faulty right rear power window motor
    • An open or high resistance in the wire
  5. Reconnect the connector to the right rear power window switch, and do the following input tests:
    • If any test indicates a problem, find and correct the cause, then recheck the system.
    • If all the input tests prove OK, the right rear power window switch must be faulty; replace it (see REAR PASSENGER'S  ).
    Cavity Wire Test condition Test: Desired result Possible cause if desired result is not obtained
    1 BLK Ignition switch ON (II), and right rear power window switch pushed UP or DOWN Measure the voltage to ground:
    There should be less than 0.2 V.
    • Poor ground (G651)
    • An open or high resistance in the ground wire
    7 PUR Ignition switch ON (II), and right rear power window switch pushed UP or DOWN Measure the voltage to ground:
    There should be battery voltage.
    • Blown No. 32 (20 A) fuse in the under-dash fuse/relay box
    • Faulty power window relay
    • An open or high resistance in the wire
