DTC P0236: Turbocharger Boost Sensor Circuit Range/Performance Problem

NOTE: Before you troubleshoot, record all freeze data and any on-board snapshot, and review the general troubleshooting information (see GENERAL TROUBLESHOOTING INFORMATION ).
  1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
  2. Check the TURBOCHARGER BOOST SENSOR and the BARO SENSOR in the DATA LIST with the HDS.

Is the difference in value between the sensors 26.7 kPa (7.9 inHg, 200 mmHg) or more?

    YES  -Go to step  9.

    NO  -Go to step 3.

  3. Note the value of TURBOCHARGER BOOST SENSOR in the DATA LIST with the HDS.
  4. Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 3, 000 RPM without load (in P or N) until the radiator fan comes on, then let it idle.
  5. Hold the engine speed at 4, 500 RPM without load.
  6. Check the TURBOCHARGER BOOST SENSOR in the DATA LIST with the HDS.

Does the TURBOCHARGER BOOST SENSOR change 0.67 kPa (0.2 inHg, 5 mmHg) or more?

    YES  -Go to step 7.

    NO  -Go to step  9.

  7. Test-drive the vehicle for several minutes in the range of recorded freeze data parameters:
    • ENGINE SPEED
    • VEHICLE SPEED
    • REL TP SENSOR
    • CLV (calculated load value)
    • APP SENSOR
  8. Monitor the OBD STATUS for DTC P0236 in the DTCs MENU with the HDS.

    Does the HDS indicate FAILED?

    YES  -Go to step 9.

NO  -If the HDS indicates PASSED, intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the turbocharger boost pressure sensor and the PCM. If the HDS indicates EXECUTING, keep driving until a result come on. If the HDS indicates OUT OF CONDITION, go to step  4.

  9. Replace the turbocharger boost sensor (see TURBOCHARGER BOOST CONTROL SOLENOID VALVE REPLACEMENT  ).
  10. Reset the PCM with the HDS.
  11. Do the PCM idle learn procedure (see PCM IDLE LEARN PROCEDURE ).
  12. Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 3, 000 RPM without load (in P or N) until the radiator fail comes on.
  13. Test-drive the vehicle for several minutes in the range of recorded freeze data parameters:
    • ENGINE SPEED
    • VEHICLE SPEED
    • REL TP SENSOR
    • CLV (calculated load value)
    • APP SENSOR
  14. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS.

    Is DTC P0236 indicated?

YES  -Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the turbocharger boost sensor and the PCM, then go to step  1.

    NO  -Go to step 15.

  15. Monitor the OBD STATUS for DTC P0236 in the DTCs MENU with the HDS.

    Does the HDS indicate PASSED?

YES  -Troubleshooting is complete. If any other Pending or Confirmed DTCs were indicated in step  14, go to the indicated DTC'S TROUBLESHOOTING .

NO  -If the HDS indicates FAILED, check for poor connections or loose terminals at the turbocharger boost sensor and the PCM, then go to step  1. If the HDS indicates EXECUTING, keep driving until a result comes on. If the HDS indicates OUT OF CONDITION, go to step  12.
