Dashboard Replacement

SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations (see COMPONENT LOCATION INDEX ) and the precautions and procedures (see PRECAUTIONS AND PROCEDURES ) before doing repairs or service.
NOTE:
- Use the appropriate tool from the KTC trim tool set to avoid damage when removing components.
- Have an assistant help you when removing and installing the dashboard.
- Take care not to scratch the dashboard, the body, or the related parts.
- Put on gloves to protect your hands.
- Do the battery terminal disconnection procedure (see BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION AND RECONNECTION ), then wait at least 3 minutes before beginning work.
- Remove these items:
- A-pillar trims, both sides (see TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - PILLAR AREAS )
- Center console (see CENTER CONSOLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION )
- Utility pocket housing (see UTILITY POCKET REMOVAL/INSTALLATION )
- Driver's switch panel (see DRIVER'S SWITCH PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION )
- Driver's dashboard lower cover (see INSTRUMENT FASCIA REMOVAL/INSTALLATION )
- Driver's vent panel (see DRIVER'S DASHBOARD UNDERCOVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION )
- Passenger's vent panel (see DOCUMENT TRAY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION )
- Glove box (see PASSENGER'S DASHBOARD UNDERCOVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION )
- Shift lever (see SHIFT LEVER REMOVAL )
- Steering column (see STEERING COLUMN REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION )
- Sunlight sensor (see SUNLIGHT SENSOR REPLACEMENT )
- In-car temperature sensor (see IN-CAR TEMPERATURE SENSOR REPLACEMENT )
- Gauge control module (see GAUGE CONTROL MODULE REPLACEMENT )
- Audio unit (see AUDIO UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION )

Passenger's side
- Remove the screw, then remove the passenger's joint duct (A).
- Disconnect and detach the front passenger's airbag connector (A), and detach the dashboard wire harness clip (B) from the steering hanger beam. Remove the front passenger's airbag mounting nuts.

Center
- Disconnect the RF unit connector (A), and detach the harness clip (B) from the unit bracket (C). Tie a string to the sunlight sensor harness connector (D), then pull out the connector through the hole (E) in the dashboard. Remove the bolts, then remove the RF unit (F).
- From front of the dashboard, remove the screws (A) and the bolts (B, C) securing the dashboard/steering hanger beam (D).
- Lift up on the dashboard (A) to release it from the guide pins (B), then carefully remove the dashboard through the front door opening.NOTE: Do not rest the dashboard on its lower console opening, or it may be damaged. Lay the dashboard on its front or back.
- Install the dashboard in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
- Make sure the dashboard fits onto the guide pins correctly.
- Make sure the wire harnesses are not pinched before tightening the bolts.
- Make sure each connector is plugged in properly.
- Do the battery terminal reconnection procedure (see RECONNECTION ).
- If necessary, adjust the shift cable (see SHIFT CABLE ADJUSTMENT ).
- Check for any DTCs that may have been set during repairs, and clear them.
- Do the steering column position memorization (see STEERING COLUMN POSITION MEMORIZATION ).
