Keyless Access Remote Removal, Installation, and Test: Test

NOTE:

  • If the doors unlock or lock with the remote, but the LED on the remote does not come on, the LED is faulty; replace the remote.
  • If any door is open, you cannot lock the doors with the remote.
  • If you unlocked the doors with the remote, but do not open any of the doors within 30 seconds, the doors relock automatically.
  • The doors do not lock or unlock with the remote if the power mode is in ACCESSORY.
  • To reduce the possibility of a non-functioning remote, replace the batteries in both remotes (DRIVER 1 and DRIVER 2) at the same time.

Without HDS 

  1. Remote - Test

    1. Put on the remote (A) behind the keyless entry checker (B).

    2. Press the remote button.

    • If the indicator light (C) come on, the remote is OK.
    • If the indicator light does not come on, check for;
      • A dead or low battery, go to step 3.
      • Faulty remote.

    3. Place a piece of masking tape over the buttons. When the remote is opened, the tape prevents the buttons from falling out of the housing.

    4. Open the keyless remote and check for water damage.

    5. Replace the remote battery (A) with a new one (CR2032), reassemble the remote then remove the tape. Try to lock and unlock the doors with the remote by pressing the lock or unlock button at least 10 times:

    • If the doors lock and unlock, the remote is OK.
    • If the doors do not lock and unlock, go to step 6.

    6. Reprogram and register the remote - Refer to: Keyless Access System Registration (2016 2017 2018 2019 2020) , or Keyless Access System Registration (2014 2015) , then try to lock and unlock the doors.

    • If the doors lock and unlock, the remote is OK.
    • If the doors do not lock and unlock, substitute a known-good remote, register it and recheck. If still not operating, check about the keyless access system.

    With HDS 

  1. Remote - Test

    1. Press the transmitter lock or unlock button at least 10 times to reset the remote.

    2. Connect the HDS to the data link connector (DLC).

    3. Select KEYLESS TRANSMITTER from the BODY ELECTRICAL SYSTEM SELECT menu, then select INSPECTION, then KEYLESS CHECK.

    4. Press the remote lock or unlock button and check the response on the screen of the HDS.

    NOTE:

    The door lock actuators may or may not cycle when receiving input from the remote.

    5. Place a piece of masking tape over the buttons. When the remote is opened, the tape prevents the buttons from falling out of the housing.

    6. Open the remote and check for water damage.

    7. Replace the remote battery (A) with a new one (CR2032), reassemble the remote then remove the tape. Press the transmitter lock or unlock button and check the response on the screen of the HDS.

    • If KEYLESS ENTRY TRANSMITTER CODE IS RECEIVED is indicated, the remote is OK.
    • If KEYLESS ENTRY TRANSMITTER CODE IS NOT RECEIVED is indicated, go to step 8.

    8. Use a different known-good remote assembly and repeat steps 3 and 4.

    NOTE:

    The remote does not need to be programmed to the vehicle for this test.

    NOTE:

    The remote is combined with the immobilizer transponder, so when the transponder is registered by the HDS, the remote programming is completed automatically.
