Audio System Symptom Troubleshooting - USB device does not function(With navigation) (2013-15)

USB device does not function 

NOTE:
  • Check the vehicle battery condition first .
  • Check the connectors for poor connections or loose terminals.
  • Check the USB's specifications:
    • Mass-storage class ready digital audio player with USB 2.0 port
    • More than 256 MB storage space
    • Supports MP3, WMA, and AAC (encoded with the iTunes) files, DRM files are not supported
  • Not all players and player functions work with the USB adapter. Please see the Owner's Manual for more information. Always test the client's USB device in a known-good vehicle of the same year and trim (if possible). Technologies change and are updated frequently which may result that USB devices may work in newer vehicles, but not in older vehicles of the same model.
  • If Unsupported Ver appears on the display, the vehicle is OK, there is a software problem with the USB device.
  1. Determine possible failure area (USB device, others):

    Connect the client's USB device to a known-good vehicle (same year/trim) that is equipped with a USB adapter, and check the USB device operation.

    Does the USB device work properly in the known-good vehicle?

    YES 

    Go to step 2.

    NO 

    See the Owner's Manual for details about the USB device requirements and approved file types.

  2. Problem verification:

    On the client's vehicle, connect the client's USB device to the USB port located in the center console.

    - 2. Press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.

    - 3. Check the USB device operation in the client's vehicle.

    Does the USB device work properly in the client's vehicle?

    YES 

    Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Inspect the connectors of the USB device, USB port and USB adapter for wear.

    NO 

    The failure is duplicated, go to step 3.

  3. Determine possible failure area (USB DET lines, others):

    Go into the System Diagnostic Mode, and use the System Link to check the USB icon status .

    Is the USB icon green?

    YES 

    Go to step 5.

    NO 

    Go to step 4.

  4. Open wire check (USB DET/USB DET GND line):

    Press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

    - 2. Disconnect the following connector.

    Audio-navigation unit connector J (7P)

    - 3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition OFF mode
      Audio-navigation unit connector J (7P): disconnected
    Test circuit USB DET/USB DET GND
    Test point 1 Audio-navigation unit connector J (7P) No. 6
    Test point 2 Audio-navigation unit connector J (7P) No. 7

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    Replace the audio-navigation unit .

    NO 

    Repair an open in the USB subharness.

  5. Determine possible failure area (USB lines, audio-navigation unit):

    Press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

    - 2. On the client's vehicle, disconnect the client's USB device from the USB port.

    - 3. Disconnect the following connector.

    Audio-navigation unit connector J (7P)

    - 4. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition OFF mode
      Audio-navigation unit connector J (7P): disconnected
    Test circuit  Test point 1:Audio-navigation unit connector J (7P)  Test point 2:USB port 5P connector 
    USB GND No. 1 No. 4
    USB DATA+ No. 2 No. 3
    USB DATA- No. 3 No. 2
    USB VBUS No. 4 No. 1

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    Replace the audio-navigation unit .

    NO 

    Go to step 6.

  6. USB adapter check:

    Disconnect the following connector.

    USB adapter 5P connector

    - 2. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition OFF mode
      Audio-navigation unit connector J (7P): disconnected
      USB adapter 5P connector: disconnected
    Test circuit  Test point 1:USB adapter 5P connector  Test point 2:Audio-navigation unit connector J (7P) 
    USB GND No. 1 No. 1
    USB DATA+ No. 2 No. 2
    USB DATA No. 3 No. 3
    USB VBUS No. 4 No. 4

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    Replace the USB adapter , then recheck.

    NO 

    Replace the USB main harness, then recheck.
