Voice guidance cannot be heard, is broken up, or there is static
NOTE:
- Check the vehicle battery condition first .
- Check the connectors for poor connections or loose terminals.
- Determine possible failure area (volume settings, others)
-1. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.
-2. Check the volume and voice feedback setting for the navigation system in set-up.
Is either set to OFF?
YES
Set the voice feedback to ON, and select an audible level for the volume.
NO
Go to step 2.
- Problem verification
-1. Check the navigation voice guidance output.
Does the system output the voice guidance?
YES
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time.
NO
The failure is duplicated, go to step 3.
- Determine possible failure area (voice guidance output circuit, others)
-1. Set the fader to max Front.
-2. Check that the audio system is operating normally, from different audio sources (AM/FM and CD) and the speaker sound levels are normal.
Does the audio system work normally and is the audio output from the front speakers normal when playing various audio sources?
YES
Go to step 4.
NO: The sound is cannot be heard in all speakers
Go to No sound is heard from all the speakers (display is normal) troubleshooting .
NO: The sound is cannot be heard in front center speaker
Go to Audio system sound is weak or distorted (display is normal) troubleshooting .
- Shorted wire check (AUX NAVI line)
-1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
-2. Disconnect the following connectors.
Audio-navigation unit connector H (16P) Stereo amplifier connector D (32P) (with KRELL audio) Stereo amplifier connector B (28P) (with ELS audio) -3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode Audio-navigation unit connector H (16P): disconnected Stereo amplifier connector B (28P) (with ELS audio): disconnected Stereo amplifier connector D (32P) (with KRELL audio): disconnected Test circuit AUX NAVI Test point 1 Audio-navigation unit connector H (16P) No. 10 (RED) Test point 2 Body ground Is there continuity?
YES
Repair a short to body ground in the wire between the audio-navigation unit and the stereo amplifier.
NO
The AUX NAVI wire is not shorted to ground. Go to step 5.
- Shorted wire check (AUX NAVI lines)
-1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode Audio-navigation unit connector H (16P): disconnected Stereo amplifier connector B (28P) (with ELS audio): disconnected Stereo amplifier connector D (32P) (with KRELL audio): disconnected Test circuits Connector: Audio-navigation unit connector H (16P) Test point 1 Test points 2 SH AUX NAVI to AUX NAVI GND, AUX BEEP, AUX NAVI No. 1 (GRY) No. 2 (WHT), No. 9 (BLK), No. 10 (RED) AUX NAVI GND to AUX BEEP, AUX NAVI No. 2 (WHT) No. 9 (BLK), No. 10 (RED) AUX BEEP to AUX NAVI No. 9 (BLK) No. 10 (RED) Is there continuity between any of the terminals?
YES
There is a short in the wires between the audio-navigation unit and the stereo amplifier. Replace the affected shielded harness.
NO: With ELS audio
The AUX NAVI wires are not shorted in the wires. Go to step 7.
NO: With KRELL audio
The AUX NAVI wires are not shorted in the wires. Go to step 6.
- Open wire check (AUX NAVI line, AUX NAVI GND line)
-1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode Audio-navigation unit connector H (16P): disconnected Stereo amplifier connector D (32P): disconnected Test circuit AUX NAVI GND Test point 1 Audio-navigation unit connector H (16P) No. 2 (WHT) Test point 2 Stereo amplifier connector D (32P) No. 7 (WHT) Test circuit AUX NAVI Test point 1 Audio-navigation unit connector H (16P) No. 10 (RED) Test point 2 Stereo amplifier connector D (32P) No. 6 (RED) Is there continuity?
YES
The AUX NAVI and the AUX NAVI GND wires are OK. Go to step 8.
NO
There is an open in the wire (s) between the audio-navigation unit and the stereo amplifier. Replace the affected shielded harness.
- Open wire check (AUX NAVI line, AUX NAVI GND line)
-1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode Audio-navigation unit connector H (16P): disconnected Stereo amplifier connector B (28P): disconnected Test circuit AUX NAVI GND Test point 1 Audio-navigation unit connector H (16P) No. 2 (WHT) Test point 2 Stereo amplifier connector B (28P) No. 4 (WHT) Test circuit AUX NAVI Test point 1 Audio-navigation unit connector H (16P) No. 10 (RED) Test point 2 Stereo amplifier connector B (28P) No. 10 (RED) Is there continuity?

NO
There is an open in the wire (s) between the audio-navigation unit and the stereo amplifier. Replace the affected shielded harness.
- Stereo amplifier check (substitution)
-1. Substitute a known-good stereo amplifier .
-2. Reconnect all the connectors, and recheck.
Does the symptom go away?
YES
Replace the original stereo amplifier.
