Voice guidance cannot be heard, is broken up, or there is static

NOTE:

  1. Determine possible failure area (volume settings, others)

-1. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

-2. Check the volume and voice feedback setting for the navigation system in set-up.

    Is either set to OFF?

    YES

Set the voice feedback to ON, and select an audible level for the volume.

    NO

    Go to step 2.

  2. Problem verification

-1. Check the navigation voice guidance output.

Does the system output the voice guidance?

    YES

Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time.

    NO

The failure is duplicated, go to step 3.

  3. Determine possible failure area (voice guidance output circuit, others)

-1. Set the fader to max Front.

-2. Check that the audio system is operating normally, from different audio sources (AM/FM and CD) and the speaker sound levels are normal.

Does the audio system work normally and is the audio output from the front speakers normal when playing various audio sources?

    YES

    Go to step 4.

NO: The sound is cannot be heard in all speakers

Go to No sound is heard from all the speakers (display is normal) troubleshooting .

NO: The sound is cannot be heard in front center speaker

Go to Audio system sound is weak or distorted (display is normal) troubleshooting .

  4. Shorted wire check (AUX NAVI line)

-1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -2. Disconnect the following connectors.

    Audio-navigation unit connector H (16P)
Stereo amplifier connector D (32P) (with KRELL audio)
Stereo amplifier connector B (28P) (with ELS audio)

-3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      Audio-navigation unit connector H (16P): disconnected
Stereo amplifier connector B (28P) (with ELS audio): disconnected
Stereo amplifier connector D (32P) (with KRELL audio): disconnected

    Is there continuity?

    YES

Repair a short to body ground in the wire between the audio-navigation unit and the stereo amplifier.

    NO

The AUX NAVI wire is not shorted to ground. Go to step 5.

  5. Shorted wire check (AUX NAVI lines)

-1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      Audio-navigation unit connector H (16P): disconnected
Stereo amplifier connector B (28P) (with ELS audio): disconnected
Stereo amplifier connector D (32P) (with KRELL audio): disconnected

Is there continuity between any of the terminals?

    YES

There is a short in the wires between the audio-navigation unit and the stereo amplifier. Replace the affected shielded harness.

    NO: With ELS audio

The AUX NAVI wires are not shorted in the wires. Go to step 7.

    NO: With KRELL audio

The AUX NAVI wires are not shorted in the wires. Go to step 6.

  6. Open wire check (AUX NAVI line, AUX NAVI GND line)

-1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      Audio-navigation unit connector H (16P): disconnected
Stereo amplifier connector D (32P): disconnected
