Engine Removal And Installation (2014 2015 2016 2017): Removal

NOTE: 

  1. Hood - Wide Open

    Disconnect the support struts from both sides of the pivot ball (bolted to the hood). Secure the hood in a vertical position. Install the left side pivot ball into the lower threaded hole.

    NOTE:  Do not attempt to close the hood with the support strut in the vertical position, as it will damage the support strut and hood.

  2. Front Strut Brace - Remove

    Remove the front strut brace .

  3. Fuel Pressure - Relieve

    Relieve the fuel pressure .

  4. Engine Cover - Remove

    Remove the engine cover .

  5. Front Grille Cover - Remove

    Remove the front grille cover .

  6. Battery - Remove

    Do the battery removal procedure .

  7. Splash Separator - Remove

    Remove the splash separator.

  8. Air Cleaner - Remove

    Remove the air cleaner .

  9. PCM Connector - Disconnect

    1. Disconnect the PCM connectors (A).

    2. Remove the harness clamp (B).

  10. Fuel Feed Hose - Disconnect

    Remove the quick connect fitting cover (A), then disconnect the fuel feed hose (B) .

  11. EVAP Purge Hose - Disconnect

    1. Disconnect the EVAP purge hose (A).

    2. Move the EVAP purge joint (B) from the bracket (C).

  12. Steering Joint - Disconnect

    Disconnect the steering joint .

    NOTE:  Hold the steering wheel using the steering wheel holder tool.

  13. Shift Cable - Remove

    Remove the shift cable . Do not bend the shift cable excessively.

  14. Radiator Cap - Remove

    Remove the radiator cap.

  15. Vehicle - Lift

    Raise and support the vehicle .

  16. Front Wheel - Remove

    Remove both front wheels .

  17. Engine Undercover - Remove

    Remove the engine undercover .

  18. Engine Coolant - Drain

    Drain the engine coolant .

  19. Engine Oil - Drain

    Drain the engine oil .

  20. ATF - Drain

    Drain the ATF .

  21. Secondary HO2S Connector - Disconnect

    Disconnect the secondary HO2S connector .

  22. Exhaust Pipe A - Remove

    Remove exhaust pipe A .

  23. Tie-Rod End Ball Joint - Disconnect

    Disconnect the tie-rod end ball joint on both sides .

  24. Damper Fork Mounting Bolt and Nut - Remove

    Remove the damper fork mounting bolt and nut on both sides .

  25. Knuckle Holder - Disconnect

    Disconnect the knuckle holder from the knuckle on both sides .

  26. Driveshaft - Remove

    Remove the driveshaft on both sides .

  27. Vehicle - Lift

    Lower the vehicle.

  28. Heater Hose - Disconnect

    Disconnect the heater hoses (A).

  29. Radiator Assembly - Remove

    Remove the radiator assembly .

  30. Alternator - Remove

    Remove the alternator .

  31. A/C Compressor - Remove

    Remove the A/C compressor without disconnecting the A/C hoses. Do not bend the A/C hoses excessively.

    NOTE:  Hang the A/C compressor with a wire tie.

  32. Under-Hood Fuse/Relay Box - Move

    Move the under-hood fuse/relay box without disconnecting the harness.

  33. Engine Wire Harness Connector - Disconnect

    1. Disconnect the engine wire harness connector (A).

    2. Remove the harness clamps (B).

  34. Battery Cable - Remove

    1. Remove the battery cables (A).

    2. Remove the harness clamps (B).

  35. Ground Cable - Remove

    1. Remove the ground cable (A).

    2. Remove the harness clamps (B).

  36. Connector Bracket - Remove

    Remove the connector bracket (A) from the front cylinder head; use the bracket bolt hole (B) to attach the engine hanger balance bar front arm.

  37. Harness Bracket - Remove

    Remove the harness bracket (A) from the rear cylinder head; use the bracket bolt hole (B) to attach the 2008 V6 attachment arm.

  38. Engine Support Hanger - Install

    NOTE: 
    • Be careful when working around the windshield.
    • AAR-T1256 two sets required for stacking additional cross section bars.
    • Be careful not to damage the hood opener cable when installing the engine support hanger at the front bulkhead.

    1. Install the engine hanger balance bar (VSB02C000019). Attach the front arm (A) to the front cylinder head with about a 10 mm (0.39 in) spacer (B) and a 10 x 1.25 mm bolt (C). Remove the rear arm from the engine hanger balance bar, then install the 2008 V6 attachment arm (SIL02C000033). Attach the 2008 V6 attachment arm to the rear cylinder head with about a 10 mm (0.39 in) spacer (D) and an 8 x 1.25 mm bolt (E).

    2. Install the engine support hanger (AAR-T1256) onto the vehicle as shown, and attach the hook to the slotted hole in the engine hanger balance bar. Tighten the wing nut (F) by hand, and lift and support the engine/transmission.

  39. Front Engine Mount Stop and Front Engine Mount Mounting Bolt - Remove

    1. Remove the No. 6 cylinder ignition coil

    2. Remove the front engine mount stop (A).

    3. Remove the front engine mount mounting bolt (B).

    4. Disconnect the front engine mount actuator subharness connector (C).

  40. Rear Engine Mount Stop and Rear Engine Mount Mounting Bolt - Remove

    1. Disconnect the rear engine mount actuator subharness connector (A).

    2. Remove the rear engine mount stop (B).

    3. Remove the rear engine mount mounting bolt (C).

  41. Vehicle - Lift

    Raise the vehicle.

  42. EPS Connector - Disconnect

    Disconnect the EPS connectors .

    NOTE:  Wrap the connectors with vinyl tape to avoid contamination from grease or water.

  43. Transmission Ground Cable Bracket - Remove

    Remove the transmission ground cable bracket.

  44. Lower Transmission Mount Bracket Mounting Bolt - Remove

    Remove the lower transmission mount bracket mounting bolts.

  45. Front Subframe Middle Mount Rubber Mounting Bolt - Loosen

    Loosen the front subframe middle mount rubber mounting bolts (A) on both sides.

  46. Front Subframe - Support

    1. Attach the subframe adapter (VSB02C000016) to the front subframe by looping the belt (A) over the front of the front subframe, then secure the belt with its stop (B), and tighten the wing nut (C).

    2. Raise a transmission jack and line up the slots in the subframe adapter arms with the bolt holes on the transmission jack base, then securely attach them with four bolts.

  47. Front Subframe - Remove

    Remove the front subframe .

  48. Vehicle - Lift

    Lower the vehicle.

  49. Chain Hoist - Attach

    1. Attach a chain hoist (A) to the engine hanger (B) and the transimission hanger (C), then lift the engine/transmission until it's securely supported by the chain hoist.

    2. Remove the engine support hanger, the engine hanger balance bar, and the 2008 V6 attachment arm.

  50. Upper Half of Side Engine Mount Bracket Mounting Bolt - Remove

    Remove the upper half of the side engine mount bracket mounting bolts.

  51. Upper Transmission Mount Bracket Mounting Bolt - Remove

    Remove the upper transmission mount bracket mounting bolts.

    NOTE:  Do not remove the TORX bolt (A) from the upper transmission mount. If the TORX bolt is removed, the upper transmission mount must be replaced as an assembly.

  52. Engine - Remove
    1. Check that the engine/transmission is completely free of the vacuum hoses, the fuel hoses, the coolant hoses, and the electrical wiring.

    2. Slowly lower the engine/transmission about 150 mm (5.91 in). Check once again that all the hoses and the electrical wiring are disconnected and free from the engine/transmission, then lower it all the way and support it.

    3. Remove the chain hoist from the engine/transmission.

    4. Raise the vehicle, and remove the engine/transmission from under the vehicle.
