Effective Control

Outline

The 4-Mode Driving System has 4 modes (SPORT+, SPORT, NORMAL, and ECON) and the desired mode can be selected by operating the integrated dynamic system switch on the center console.

SPORT Mode, SPORT+ Mode

Powerful running characteristics were obtained by improving the throttle response during acceleration and deceleration. And a sporty feel was obtained by modifying the gear-shifting map.

NORMAL Mode

This mode strikes a balance between fuel economy and stress-free driving in the practical driving range.

ECON Mode

The engine speed is kept practically constant when the shifting response drops and the throttle opening is particularly small. This means that in the practical driving range the engine speed can be controlled to improve fuel economy.

Change of ETCS control

The powertrain control module (PCM) varies the throttle valve opening characteristics according to each mode. In SPORT mode and SPORT+ mode, the accelerator response is improved by correcting the amount that the accelerator pedal is actually depressed by moving it in the throttle valve open direction.

In ECON mode, on the other hand, fuel consumption is reduced by easing the throttle valve control below the amount that the accelerator pedal is actually depressed.

Thus, by correcting the actual throttle valve opening corresponding to the amount that the accelerator pedal is depressed, and by varying the characteristics in each mode in the middle range up to the full-open throttle position, the 4-Mode Driving System can satisfy all the drivers' driving needs.

Cruise Control System

Relaxing Acceleration/Constant-Speed Tracking (ECON Mode)

The driving speed is kept constant for fuel economy by relaxing the acceleration/constant-speed tracking. This means that the time needed to restore constant-speed driving is lengthened when the vehicle speed fluctuates or drops due to road load changes.
