Center Display Unit Does Not Work (Without Auto Idle Stop System)
NOTE:
- Check the vehicle 12 volt battery condition first - Refer to: 12 Volt Battery Test (Without SH-AWD) or 12 Volt Battery Test (With SH-AWD) .
- Check any official Honda service website for more service information about the navigation system.
- Check the connectors for poor connections or loose terminals.
- Problem verification
- 1. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.
- 2. Check if any information appears on the center display.
Is there any information displayed?
YES
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time.
NO
The failure is duplicated, go to step 2.
- Determine possible failure area (audio system, others)
- 1. Check if audio information appears on the ODMD (TM) (touch screen).
Is the audio information displayed on the ODMD (TM) (touch screen)?
YES
Go to step 3.
NO
Refer to: Audio-Navigation Unit Power Will Not Turn On (No Information Display) (Without Auto Idle Stop System) (2015-18) or Audio-Navigation Unit Power Will Not Turn On (No Information Display) (Without Auto Idle Stop System) (2019) .
- Determine possible failure area (center display unit power and ground circuit, others)
- 1. Shield the center display unit from the sun with your hand, and check that the display is back lit (only the back light is on).
Can you see the back light?
YES
Go to step 7. Refer to: 7
NO
Go to step 4.
- Open wire check (+B AUDIO line)
- 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
- 2. Disconnect the following connector.
Center display unit connector A (12P) - 3. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode Center display unit connector A (12P): disconnected Test point 1 Center display unit connector A (12P) No. 6 - Refer to: Center Display Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (With Auto Idle Stop System), or Center Display Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (Without Auto Idle Stop System) Test point 2 Body ground Is there battery voltage?
YES
The +B AUDIO wire is OK. Go to step 5.
NO
Repair an open in the wire between the No. A19 (20 A) fuse in the under-hood fuse/relay box and the center display unit.
- Open wire check (ACC line)
- 1. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.
- 2. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle ON mode Center display unit connector A (12P): disconnected Test point 1 Center display unit connector A (12P) No. 5 - Refer to: Center Display Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (With Auto Idle Stop System), or Center Display Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (Without Auto Idle Stop System) Test point 2 Body ground Is there battery voltage?
YES
The ACC wire is OK. Go to step 6.
NO
Repair an open in the wire between the No. B37 (7.5 A) fuse in the under-dash fuse/relay box and the center display unit.
- Open wire check (GND line)
- 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
- 2. Reconnect center display unit connector A (12P).
- 3. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.
- 4. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle ON mode Test point 1 Center display unit connector A (12P) No. 12 - Refer to: Center Display Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (With Auto Idle Stop System), or Center Display Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (Without Auto Idle Stop System) Test point 2 Body ground Is there less than 0.2 V?
YES
Replace the center display unit .
NO
Repair an open or high resistance in the wire between the center display unit and body ground (G303).
- Shorted wire check (GVIF lines)
- 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
- 2. Disconnect the following connectors.
Audio-navigation unit connector L (3P) Center display unit connector B (3P) - 3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode Audio-navigation unit connector L (3P): disconnected Center display unit connector B (3P): disconnected Test point 1: Audio-navigation unit connector L (3P)
Test points 2: Audio-navigation unit connector L (3P)
No. 1 No. 2, No. 3 No. 2 No. 3 Is there continuity between any of the terminals?
YES
There is a short in the wires between the audio-navigation unit and the center display unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.
NO
The GVIF wires are not shorted in the wires. Go to step 8.
- Open wire check (GVIF lines)
- 1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode Audio-navigation unit connector L (3P): disconnected Center display unit connector B (3P): disconnected Test point 1: Audio-navigation unit connector L (3P)
Test point 2: Center display unit connector B (3P)
No. 1 No. 1 No. 2 No. 2 No. 3 No. 3 Is there continuity?
YES
The GVIF wires are OK. Go to step 9.
NO
There is an open in the wire (s) between the audio-navigation unit and the center display unit. Replace affected shielded harness.
- Center display unit check (substitution)
- 1. Substitute a known-good center display unit.
- 2. Reconnect all the connectors, and recheck.
Does the symptom go away?
YES
Replace the original center display unit.
NO
