Charging System Description
Overview
The PCM gathers vehicle operating system data and determines the required charging rate. Based on that data, the PCM commands the alternator to provide a specific charging rate (voltage) between 12.5 and 14.5 volts, using 0.1 volt steps. In some operating conditions, the alternator may bypass PCM control and use a default value.
- Depending on the vehicle condition, variable control is not activated.
- When the alternator fails, the DTC(s) will be stored.
