Traffic Sign Recognition System Description

The traffic sign recognition system scans road signs for the speed limit by using a multipurpose camera unit attached to the upper middle part of the windshield. It displays the information in the gauge control module (multi-information display (MID)), which allows the driver to recognize the current speed limit.

Gauge Control Module (MID) 

The information scanned by the multipurpose camera is displays on the MID. The MID displays the speed limit only.

Operation 

If there are no road signs for speed limit to detect for 20 seconds or more and a predetermined distance, the display is cancelled.

Multipurpose Camera Unit 

The multipurpose camera unit is mounted on the inner surface of the windshield.

Customization 

The system cannot be turned ON/OFF, but the display mode can be changed.

Detection Range 

The road sign detection range of the multipurpose camera is approximately 8 m (26 ft) left and right from the center of the vehicle, and a height of approximately 8 m (26 ft).

Activate Condition 

The system may not be activated when it detects or encounters these situations:
